Justice BN Srikrishna told the imperative of Arogya Setu App completely illegal

New Delhi: Arogya Setu App, which tracks Corona virus patients, has now been questioned by former Supreme Court Judge BN Srikrishna. He has said that the government’s mandating of the Arogya App is ‘completely illegal’. He asked under which law it has been made mandatory, as of now there is no law for it.

He raised this question in a conversation with The Indian Express. Justice Srikrishna was the head of the committee that prepared the first draft of the Data Protection Bill. His statement comes at a time when the Center has made this app mandatory for all employees.

On May 1, the Home Ministry issued the lockdown guidelines making it mandatory for all government and private employees to download the Arogya Setu app.

Justice Srikrishna said that the Noida police order is completely illegal. India is a democratic country and such orders can be challenged in courts. He said that the Ministry of Home Affairs guidelines cannot be considered sufficient legal support to make the use of sanitary bridges mandatory.
