Mathura: About 12 hours after the Allahabad High Court order, Dr. Kafeel Khan was finally released from Mathura jail late on Tuesday. He was charged with the National Security Act (Rasuka) for his speech against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). However, the High Court, in its judgment, not only termed his arrest illegal but also ordered immediate release.
The High Court, in its order, also said that Dr. Kafeel’s speech at first sight does not seem to suggest that this is an attempt to evoke. Kafeel’s lawyer Irfan Ghazi said that the Mathura jail administration informed him at around 11 pm that Dr. Kafeel was being released. He was then released at around 12 pm.
After his release from prison, Kafeel said that he would be forever grateful to all the well-wishers who raised his voice for his release. He said that the administration was still not ready to release him but due to the prayers of the people, he has been released, but there is a possibility that the government may implicate him again in some case.
