Interim bail to UAPA convicts for parental care

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered the release of the culprits of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) on one-month interim bail to take care of their parents.

A division bench of Justice Ashok Bhushan, Justice R Subhash Reddy and Justice MR Shah directed Arun Kumar Jain, Hafiz Abdul Majid and some others to be released on one-month interim bail.

Abdul Majid had argued that his father is 85 years old and mother 80 years old, while Arun Kumar Jain said that his father is 85 years old and permanently blind and he is in the final stages of his life. Her mother is 75 years old and suffers from the disease. He requested the court that his special permission petition is pending and during this time he be granted interim bail for a minimum period for the care of his parents. Both have already served 10 years in jail. The court accepted his request.
