India, Iran, Uzbekistan to hold first trilateral meeting on Chabahar port on Dec 14

New Delhi: India, Iran and Uzbekistan will hold their first Trilateral Working Group Meeting on joint use of Chabahar Port virtually on December 14.

The Meeting would be jointly chaired at Deputy Minister level by Republic of Uzbekistan and Islamic Republic of Iran and Secretary Level from Republic of India, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Saturday.

India welcomed the interest of Uzbekistan to use the Chabahar port as a transit port.

“This would open up economic opportunities for the traders and business community of the region,” it said.

Besides Uzbekistan, other Central Asian countries have also shown interest in using the port.

“India seeks to cooperate closely with regional countries on this issue,” it added.
