Mumbai: The Mumbai Police Crime Branch on Thursday arrested a former CEO of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) from Pune district, an official said. Accused Partho Dasgupta is the fifteenth person to be arrested by some TV channels in a case involving alleged rigging of television rating points (TRP).
“He was arrested by the Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) under the jurisdiction of Rajgarh Police Station in Pune district and will be produced in a Mumbai court on Friday,” the official said.
Earlier, the CIU arrested Ramil Ramgarhia, former BARC chief operating officer (COO) in the case.
The Mumbai Police started an investigation after the rating agency Bark filed a complaint of some channels manipulating the TRPs.
TRP is measured by recording audience data in sample homes, which is important as it helps TV channels attract advertisers.
It was alleged that in some of these houses, in order to increase their TRP, some channels were being bribed to tune only.
