Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Police arrested the absconding main accused Mahant Satyanarayana late Thursday in the murder of a woman after gang-raping her in Badaun district. He had a reward of 50,000 rupees.
District Magistrate Prashant Kumar said that Mahant Satyanarayana has been arrested from Ughati police area on Thursday midnight. He said that the police is questioning him.
The STF was ordered by CM Yogi Adityanath to arrest the main accused. The STF along with the district police were also ordered to investigate the case. The accused were ordered to take action under the NSA. A reward of Rs 50,000 was declared on the main accused in the case.
According to police sources, on the evening of January 3, the woman went to worship at the temple where she was raped and later murdered by three people, including the temple’s Mahant. According to police, the woman was hit with a heavy object in her chest and legs while her private part were injured. The family accused the temple mahant of rape and murder.
