Ranchi: In a major setback to jailed former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav the Jharkhand High Court on Friday rejected his bail plea in Dumka Treasury Case of the Fodder Scam.
The court of Justice Apresh Kumar Singh rejected the bail plea of Mr Yadav in the case. The court was of the view that since more than two months are left in completing half the tenure of the imprisonment awarded to him therefore he can not be granted bail.
During the hearing the CBI presented all the necessary documents related to the time spent by Lalu Yadav behind the bars as per which it emerged that 2 months and 7 days are still left in his sentence. Following which the court rejected his bail.
Lalu Yadav’s lawyer said that in the year 1997 and 2001 Lalu Yadav had spent one month each in jail however since he was not in custody therefore the period has not been counted. He said that after two months he will be filing a fresh bail petition and hoped that next time Lalu Yadav will be out of jail.
