Uttarakhand CM Tirath Singh Rawat expands cabinet

Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat on Friday expanded his cabinet with induction of four new faces.

Uttarakhand Governor Baby Rani Maurya administered the oaths of office and secrecy to 11 ministers (seven old and four new faces) at Raj Bhawan.

Bansidhar Bhagat, Yashpal Arya, Satpal Maharaj, Arvind Pandey, Harak Singh Rawat, Subodh Uniyal, Bishan Singh Chufal and Ganesh Joshi have been inducted as Cabinet Ministers, while Rekha Arya, Dhan Singh Rawat and Swami Yatishwara Nanda as Ministers of State.

Earlier in the day, Madan Kaushik was made the state party president.

In morning, Tirath Singh Rawat paid a courtesy visit to former chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat here.

On Wednesday, Tirath Singh Rawat, BJP’s Lok Sabha MP from Garhwal, took oath as the Uttarakhand Chief Minister.

Trivendra Singh’s resignation on Tuesday had come after Dushyant Gautam and former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh, had submitted a report to the BJP’s central leadership, hinting of the rebellion in the state unit of the party.

The Uttarakhand cabinet can have 12 ministers but two berths have remained vacant since the BJP government assumed power in 2017. Another berth fell vacant after the demise of state finance minister Prakash Pant in June 2019.
