High court imposes interim stay on reservation process in UP Panchayat elections

Lucknow: The Allahabad High Court has slammed the Yogi government over the reservation process in the three-tier panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh. The Lucknow bench of the High Court has on Friday imposed an interim stay on finalizing the system of reservation in the panchayat elections.

The order was passed by a bench of Justice Rituraj Awasthi and Justice Manish Mathur on a PIL filed on behalf of Ajay Kumar. In this case, the government will now file an answer on Monday. After the order, Additional Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh issued the GO. The order has been sent to all DMs.

After the decision of the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court, Additional Chief Secretary Panchayati Raj Manoj Kumar Singh has written a letter to all the District Magistrates instructing that the process of reservation and allocation for Panchayat General Election 2021 should not be finalized till the next order of governance.

Notification was issued on February 11, 2021 for reservation and allocation of areas and posts of Zilla Panchayat, Kshetra Panchayat and Gram Panchayat in Panchayat elections and reservation was to be published on March 17, against which a petition was filed in the High Court was.
