Kolkata: The CID has now taken over the investigation into the injury case of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram. A senior officer of the investigating agency said that a team of CID officials would soon visit the spot in East Medinipur district and record the statements of witnesses.

He said that a case has already been registered at Nandigram police station on the basis of a complaint lodged by Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Sufiyan regarding the incident. The incident took place on 10 March. The officer said that a case has been registered against unknown people under sections 341 and 323 of the Indian Penal Code.

Banerjee alleged that she was attacked in Birulia Bazar area in which she was injured. Following the incident, the Election Commission suspended Chief Minister’s security director Vivek Sahai and former Medinipur Superintendent of Police Praveen Prakash.
