New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear on Thursday a fresh petition challenging the constitutional validity of Section 124 (sedition) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

A division bench of Chief Justice NV Raman, Justice AS Bopanna and Justice Hrishikesh Roy handed over a copy of the petition to the petitioner Major General (Retd) S G Vombatkere, Attorney General K.K. K. Venugopal and fixed the date for hearing tomorrow.

The court is already hearing the petition of two journalists on the same issue. The petition is being heard by a division bench of Justice Uday Umesh Lalit, Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice KM Joseph, which had issued notice to the central government in April last.

Retired Major General Wombatkere has called the relevant section ambiguous and against freedom of expression. Advocate PB Suresh appeared for the petitioner.
