Farmers Hold Protest at Sahjanwa, the Stronghold of CM Yogi Adityanath

Farmer unions are seeking to infiltrate Purvanchal ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections next year to raise awareness about three problematic agricultural laws and campaigning against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

On Tuesday, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella organization for protesting farmers’ unions, convened a panchayat in Yogi Adityanath’s stronghold of Gorakhpur’s Sahjanwa area and called for a Bharat Bandh on September 27.

Agricultural-related businesses employ over 70 percent of our country’s youth. This will be terrible not only for farmers but for the whole country,” Atul Anjan warned. According to agricultural union leaders, locals have also been encouraged not to vote for the BJP in the next state assembly election.

“We’d also prefer a guarantee on the MSP. Farmers are already suffering, and the government’s goal is to exacerbate their misery by selling their land to private investors,” Shahi stated. For the last ten months, many farmers, mostly from Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, have been protesting the three new agricultural rules at the borders of Delhi and other parts of the nation.
