Google prohibits ads that promote coronavirus conspiracy theory content

World’s largest technology company Google announced that it would ban the websites and apps which are using its advertising account to feature dangerous content that challenges the scientific know-how about coronavirus pandemic.

The search engine Google shared that it has updated its advertising policy as the company has been called upon by the authorities to reduce the wrong information shared on its platform.

Google has prohibited content to make money from ads such as debunked conspiracy theories, which includes stories that the coronavirus diseases was made in a Chinese lab, that it was created by founder of Microsoft Corp Bill Gates, or that the virus is fake.

Google is keen on examining the ads which have harmful content such as miracle health cures or anti-vaccination movement.

The company will also suspend accounts of those advertisers who create their own advertisements to promote coronavirus conspiracy theories.

From now on, Google will focus on only ads about coronavirus pandemic from the government authorities and healthcare providers to stop any malpractices and spread of misinformation.
