Sony has introduced the latest member of its Cinema Line cameras. It is Sony FX3.
Camera users can easily mount the Sony FX3 on a gimbal or a drone for shooting. The camera features five 1/4-20 threaded mounts with three of them on top. Sony also included:
A dedicated backlit record button.
- A joystick.
- Some shortcut buttons on the camera.

Sony FX3 features
The camera uses S-Cinetone color science derived from the Sony Venice camera. It has now become the default look of all the Cinema Line cameras of the company. S-Cinetone produces authentic skin tones and facial expressions. Many filmmakers like S-Cinetone for its instant cinematic look without post-production. Sony a7S Mark III may also get an S-Cinetone color profile via a firmware update.
Sony FX3 packs a 35mm full-frame back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor. Users can derive approximately 10.2 megapixels for movies and 12.1 megapixels for stills from this sensor. Also, the shallow depth of field created by the full-frame sensor is one of the camera’s key highlights. The bokeh images should come out well with Sony FX3.
Sony FX3 features a BIONZ XR image processing engine. The auto ISO scale ranges between 80-12800. However, the ISO sensitivity is 80102400 for both movies and stills and is expandable to ISO 409600.
The autofocus system of the camera covers all but the very edges of the frame. It supports subject tracking, face and eye detection, and adjustable rack speed.
For the video recording capabilities, the FX3 can shoot 4K videos at up to 120FPS. The company also promises that the camera can record 4K at 60FPS for 13 hours without overheating.
Sony FX3 price and availability
Sony’s latest FX3 Cinema Line camera starts shipping in March for $3,900 in the United States and $5,000 in Canada. The price and availability of Sony FX3 in India are not known.
