Five-day mandatory institutional quarantine order rolled back in Delhi

New Delhi: In the capital of the country, the cases of corona virus are increasing steadily. Thousands of corona virus patients are coming out every day. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal has withdrawn the decision to have a five-day institutional quarantine following opposition from the Delhi government. Earlier a petition was filed in the Delhi High Court against the verdict.

The Lieutenant Governor withdrew the mandated Institutional Quarantine order stating that only those Corona-positive patients would be quarantined who would not have adequate facilities for home isolation and who would not require hospital treatment.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had opposed the decision, saying that when ICMR has allowed home isolation for patients without symptoms across the country, why should there be separate rules for Delhi? ” Kejriwal raised the question that most of the patients are without symptoms and after this order how will arrangements be made for their isolation? The petition filed in the High Court also argued that the Lieutenant Governor’s order is asking patients to forcibly institute quarantine, while the government is not able to provide adequate beds and nurses even to the needy.

On Friday, Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal has ordered the closure of the Home Quarantine. Now at least five days Institutional Quarantine has been made mandatory for all Corona patients. In his order, the Lt. Governor said that patients without symptoms of Covid-19 would be sent home for quarantine after being in Institutional Quarantine for five days. Patients with symptoms will be admitted to the hospital if needed. Under the supervision of the District Magistrate, the team of District Surveillance Officer will do physical verification of every person with home isolation.
