Kolkata: Veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee passed away at a Kolkata hospital on Sunday,38 days after he tested positive for Covid-19.
He was 85 and is survived by wife, son and a daughter.
The actor was admitted to the hospital on October 6, and a day after he tested positive for the pandemic.
Chatterjee, one of maestro Satyajit Ray’s most favourite actors, tested negative after a week on October 14, but he remained admitted because of health complications, especially Covid induced encephalopathy.
A pall of gloom descended on the cultural fraternity of Bengal and the country hearing the demise of Chatterjee.
