Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court on Wednesday directed the state government to come out with a policy to send all those caught not wearing face masks for community service at any Covid care center run.
A bench headed by Chief Justice Vikram Nath gave these directions during the hearing on a PIL. The court said that such people should spend four to six hours every day for five to fifteen days at such centers for cleaning, cooking, help in data and other records, etc. in non medical services. While doing this age, gender etc. should be taken care of.
The court said that this punishment would be in addition to the monetary penalty already set for it. It is known that the state government has increased the penalty to 1000 rupees for not wearing masks in public place amidst the rising cases of Corona again. So far more than 2 lakh 10 thousand cases of corona have been reported in the state, out of which about 15 thousand are active. So far more than 4 thousand people have died.
The court has also ordered the state government to submit a report in case of compliance of its directive by 24 December.
