Advice to avoid sex for three months after vaccination

New Delhi: Clinical trial of Covaxin is still going on and testing is still pending for its safety and effectiveness. Despite this, the Drug Controller General of India (DGCI) has allowed the vaccine to be given to the general public. However, medical experts have advised volunteers taking part in a third phase trial of Covaxin to use condoms before having sex for three months.

It is necessary for male volunteers to use effective contraception with a female partner up to three months after vaccination. But the important question is whether the caution to use contraception should not be for all those who are participating in the current government immunization campaign.

Medical experts say that the situation itself is clear for the use of condoms for sex after vaccination which may have an adverse effect on the fetus or fertility. Experts say that vaccine beneficiaries should be cautious as they should avoid direct sex with partners 3-12 months after vaccination to maintain fertility
