Mumbai: Three months later, 6,000 new cases of covid-19 were reported in Maharashtra, indicating a worsening of the epidemic. An official of the state health department said that 6112 new cases of infection in the state have come mostly from Akola, Pune and Mumbai sections. Earlier, the state had received more than 6,000 cases a day on October 30 and after that the number of cases started to decrease.
With new cases of infection, the number of infected increased to 20,87,632 while 44 more deaths led to the death toll of 51,713. Of these 44 deaths, 19 people died in the last 48 hours, 10 died last week while 15 died before that. The highest number of infections were coming from Mumbai city and surrounding areas. But, since February 12, there has been a sharp increase in infection cases in Akola, Amravati. The number of infected in the Akola section on February 12 was 76,207 which increased to 82,904 on Friday. The Akola section consists of Akola, Amravati and Yavatmal districts.
