Pune: Section 144, which prohibits assembly of 4 or more people, has been imposed in Pune and adjoining areas after it reported 16 positive coronavirus cases.

The Pune municipal commissioner imposed section 144 after a sharp rise in coronavirus cases. Till now the total number of coronavirus cases in India is at 110 with Maharashtra being the most affected state.

Meanwhile, the global death toll due to the novel coronavirus rises to 6000. The positive cases of COVID19 in Pakistan rises to 94, after 41 new cases reported in a day.

The Mumbai Police have prohibited all types of group tours in the city till March 31starting Sunday as part of steps to prevent the spread of Covid-19. In Pune, authorities are likely to impose a lockdown as the district has recorded the highest number of positive cases in the country at 15.

The district administration may issue Section 144 in parts of the city preventing gathering of people, Pune divisional commissioner Deepak Mhaiskar said. It will also close all parks, he added.
