Colombo: Sri Lankan health officials said on Friday that two highly contagious COVID-19 variants – B.1.1.7 and B.1.617.2 – have been detected in the country.
According to a news agency report, Chandima Jeevanandara, director of the Allergy, Immunity and Cell Biology Unit at Sri Jayawardenepura University, said that the B.1.1. Nine other regions have been reported.
The B.1.617.2, or delta variant, has been found at a quarantine facility in Vaskaduwa, on the outskirts of the capital, he said.
