Cow slaughter will now be punished for 10 years in Uttar Pradesh

Cabinet approves draft Cow-Slaughter Prevention (Amendment) Ordinance, 2020

Lucknow: In Uttar Pradesh, now, those who kill cow will be punished with imprisonment up to 10 years and a fine of up to Rs 5 lakh. For this, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved a proposal to amend the Prevention of Slaughter Act 1955.

Additional Chief Secretary (Home and Information) Avnish Kumar Awasthi said, “In order to make the cow slaughter law more strong, the Uttar Pradesh cabinet has approved the proposal to amend this law of 1955”. He said that this important decision was taken in the meeting of the Council of Ministers held at his government residence headed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Awasthi said that the state cabinet decided to bring the Uttar Pradesh Govt Prevention (Amendment) Ordinance, 2020. The cabinet also decided to bring this ordinance and replace it by introducing the bill in the Legislature and then pass it.
