Bihar DGP took VRS, will contest elections

Patna: Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) Gupteshwar Pandey, who was involved in the investigation into the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, on Tuesday, took voluntary retirement from service on Tuesday and was granted the same in hours. His move has triggered speculation that the officer would contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly polls, which are likely to be held in October-November.

Pandey’s request seeking voluntary retirement was approved by Governor Phagu Chauhan, a notification issued by the state home department said.

However, while addressing the media, Pandey claimed that his decision to quit the police force had nothing to do with Sushant’s case. He also maintained that he has not yet joined any political party but can do so in the future.

The DGP had recently been in the national headlines for his stout defence of the Nitish Kumar administration when it was under attack from the Shiv Sena-led Maharashtra government over Bihar Police’s probe into the death of Sushant.
