Chennai: In an apparent swipe against PM Modi former finance minister P Chidambaram, sarcastically asked whether he would invite his US counterpart for another ‘Namaste Trump’.
The Congress leader made this statement with Trump’s negative comment on India dealing with coronavirus.
Trump took India’s name along with China and Russia for allegedly under-reporting the covid deaths.
While it is believed that Trump may have made the statement to shore up his fortunes in the elections just over a month.
He is under pressure from the opposition for mishandling coronavirus turning a blind eye to scientific opinion.
Trump yet maintains that coronavirus situation is ‘under control’ which puts White house’s medical expert Anthony Fauci and Trump at loggerheads quite often.
Indian political circle was displeased with the statement as Trump added India (an ally) to the list of China and Russia (in frosty relationship with US).
P Chidambaram took a dig at Modi for his bonhomie with Trump that fetched a double-crossing statement against India from the latter.
He took to twitter to make this statement with drawing parallels to Trump and Modi’s parlance without making a direct reference to Modi, quoting Trump.
