New Delhi: The BJP has released the first list of 70 candidates for the Assam assembly elections on Friday. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonwal will also contest from Majuli and Hemant Biswa Sharma from Jalukbari seat this time. The party has not given tickets to 11 sitting MLAs. In the first list of BJP, 11 ST and 4 SC leaders have got tickets.
In the state, the BJP is contesting the elections in alliance with the Assam Gana Parishad (AGP) and the United People’s Party Liberals (UPPL). Under the alliance agreements BJP will contest 92, AGP 26 and UPPL eight seats.
The BJP Central Election Committee met on Thursday to discuss the names of the candidates. In this, PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda and other members of the party’s Central Election Committee were present.
