The second wave of coronavirus is washing the country and taking lives like anything. The fresh record of new infections has been consistently over 3 lakhs in India over the past few days. Although the number of deaths recorded daily is less than 10% of the recorded number of fresh cases, there are many reports making us doubt whether this is indeed the actual number of deaths due to the novel coronavirus disease all over India.
The Modi government announced at the start of the week that they feel that the complete lockdown of the country or the states have to be the last resort in dealing with the second wave of coronavirus as we have health infrastructure, medicines, vaccines, etc. in place which weren’t there last year because of which the full-lockdown was imposed for over two months. However, the continuous reports in leading news websites about the agony and pain of people standing in queues and yet not getting a COVID-bed, hospitals lacking to provide oxygen support, medicines, and vaccines running out of stock puts the common people in a different reality than what we read and hear from the government or ministers for that matter. So much information gets circulated on social media, WhatsApp, news channels about the current crisis of India while dealing with COVID-19 that we as a common public start developing self-doubts and doubts over the existing government claims and releases.
One can literally say that we are just left to fend for ourselves if we want to have a good future. So, if you are really serious about your life, and do not want to see your loved ones crying or in pain, just decide to stay indoors or at your home. If you are living in a urban area where home delivery of essential supplies is possible and available, then just go for it. Do not step outside your home till the situation outside and till the number of new infections getting reported comes to normal in your city or state. This is the simplest way to save your life and of others. Do not go by this idea that others are going then why shouldn’t I? What is the main reason that makes these “others” venture out of their homes is their lookout, not yours and these “others” cannot come to your aid if you come into any problems.

So, it is a sincere request from a common man to another common man of the country that as much as possible get involved in a self-imposed lockdown for the coming weeks or months and while you are at home, ensure that you eat well, sleep well, do good physical activities and keep your mind engaged with positive thinking and good energy. Do not fall prey to rumors but at the same time, do not risk your life by traveling out of your home unnecessarily. As much as possible, keep your home clean and stay hygienic as we fight this deadly virus with all that we can.
