99 years old Mumbai museum goes virtual
Since last year, there has been a lot of changes in the ways things work. In Mumbai, since mid-April 2021, the government officials made it mandatory for people to stay back home and travel only if working in essential services or having an emergency, then only step out of homes. Children to elderly all are getting bored sitting on the couch and watching television. Usually, during these months of April to June, children love traveling outside their cities to explore various places with their families as it is their summer vacation period. But this year, even that is going to be spent in like a quarantine at home vacation.
In order to spread smiles and help people explore historic places and museums, the iconic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya of Mumbai has made a move to go into a virtual mode of operation. This 99 years old museum has started to make its collections available to the public through online mode due to the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic. You won’t believe that it took almost 11 months for this heritage museum of Mumbai to open doors on 16 February but had to be shut down again due to the rising cases in and around the city.
The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya has almost 50,000 artefacts, which are from sculptures of different times, Indian miniature paintings, paintings from China, Japan, Europe, coins, weapons, natural history, and artefacts from even Harappan sites. Thus, these galleries that have been spread across three to four main buildings and the east-wing extension building can now be accessed online. You would get amazed to even check out the fashion styles of our ancestors of olden times in this museum.
