In the first of its kind of initiative, the government of Greece has launched the first European Union’s Digital COVID-19 certificate. The idea is to reduce the travel procedures for people who are fully vaccinated against the deadly coronavirus disease. The document has been tagged as the quickest method to facilitate travel by the officials of the country.
The digital COVID-19 certificate was launched in Athens and the Prime Minister of Greece asked the governments of Europe to restart the travel and tourism sector for the summer season in a move to recover the losses financially that has been caused due to the lockdowns imposed to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease.
Greece’s Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis also mentioned how Greece as a tourism country would run this system before the deadline has been fixed by Brussels for 1 July 2021. He also encouraged other states to take the digital certificate mode in order to restore the freedom of movement in the region.
As per the prime minister, the digital covid certificate of the EU will have all the required information which an EU member state would need in order to welcome the travelers. It will cut down the hassles of additional information such as vaccination proof or negative test reports of COVID-19.

The former prime minister of Belgium who is presently the president of the EU Council has said that the free movement of people is a good European achievement and it is quite necessary to show that after the pandemic ends there will be an assurance for free movement of citizens.
The digital COVID-19 certificate provides all EU or third-country holders the ability to move within the block and not need to follow the restrictions that have been introduced to further curb the spread of the virus.
