Lucknow: There seems to be discord in the Yadav family in Uttar Pradesh, and this is evident from the fact that Mulayam Singh Yadav as well as Akhilesh Yadav has kept away from campaigning for Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate in Azamgarh where by-election is being held. Both Mulayam Singh Yadav and his son Akhilesh held the Azamgarh Lok Sabha seat earlier.

Dharmendra Yadav, nephew of Mulayam Singh Yadav, has been given party ticket from Azamgarh where he is locked in a straight fight with Bharatiya Janata Party’s Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirahua and Bahujan Samaj Party’s Guddu Jamali. A minor swing in votes may change the results. Therefore, the contest is not easy for Yadav.

Senior SP leader Azam Khan has, however, been campaigning for the party candidate in Azamgarh as well as in Rampur where another Lok Sabha by-election is being held. Khan is down with certain ailments. Yet he has been vigorously campaigning for the party candidates.

According to party sources, there is no ground for Akhilesh to keep away from campaigning. Something seems to have gone wrong in the family, sources further said, adding that his uncle Shivpal Yadav has now begun to speak against the party and is set to strengthen his own political wing POragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia). He might move out of the party, sources further said. As Tuesday was the last day of campaigning, everyone in the party expected that Akhilesh would campaign, but he went to Kannauj, instead of Azamgarh.
