Make a list of your travel documents and get them printed. You may be a mobile-savvy person and would like to store your documents on your mobile or laptop. But for your elderly parent, seeing the physical copy of their travel ticket, hotel booking ticket and even their documents would make them happy. It will help them read the travel documents and also stay informed about what are the procedures involved in the current times.

Go to the airport or your travel start location a little early than your expected time. You may have the habit to board your flight or car or train like a hero at the exact time and even run if the need arises. But for elderly parents, their hands and legs don’t give them the same energy. Also, their mind increases tension and makes them panic if things are not smooth and going exactly as planned. So, it is okay if you reach the venue 15 minutes to 1/2 hour before time as that will help them and you too to understand the travel process in a slow manner.

Prepare home-cooked meals and carry them with you while you travel. Eating outside foods can cause a little health trouble to your elderly parent if they are not used to oily or spicy stuff. So, it is better you carry some healthy snacks with you in your bag and encourage your elderly parent to intake them whenever he or she feels hungry.

Carry the needed medicines and also extra medicines. You never know how and what you will require if your elderly parent doesn’t feel well during the flight or the travel journey. So, it is always better to show your elderly parent to a family doctor before you both decide to take a tour. You can even get some health check-ups done so that your elderly parent is confident to go on that voyage that he has been waiting for a long time.

Get some help if required. You can ask the flight attendants or staff to be more humble and kind if you are unable to carry a lot of luggage as you hold the hands of your elderly parent. After all, sharing is caring!
