Additional ITBP troops could be moved to forward location at Sino-India border

New Delhi: 20 Indian soldiers lost their lives in violent clashes in the Galvan Valley between India and China this week. It is feared that China may again carry out a similar encounter. At present, the two armies are face to face in three places in Ladakh. Meanwhile, two thousand Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel can be sent to the border areas adjoining China to increase surveillance on the border and strengthen India in the current standoff between the two armies.

ITBP jawans are currently doing duty in different parts of the country. However, in the face of deteriorating conditions in Ladakh, there is talk of sending them completely to the border. A senior government official told a news agency that 20 ITBP companies could be sent along the borders with China.

ITBP jawans have been engaged in guarding the 3488 km border between India and China for a long time. They have been posted at 180 border posts from Karakoram Pass to Union Territory of Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Sikkim to Arunachal Pradesh. It is believed that if there is no peace on the Indo-China border for some days, violent incidents can happen further. Former Army Chief General VP Malik has said that a small spark also takes the form of fire when soldiers are face to face.
