MUMBAI: Maharashtra’s Maha Vikas Aghadi government has put a stop to three recent major agreements with Chinese companies amidst tension with China in Ladakh. These agreements were related to projects worth about 5000 crores and were recently held during the ‘Magnetic Maharashtra 2.0 Investor Summit’. Earlier, the government of Haryana has also been instructed to cancel the tenders of Chinese companies from power projects and issue new tenders.
According to the Times of India report, Maharashtra’s industrial minister Subhash Desai said, “These decisions have been taken after consulting the central government. These agreements were made before 20 Indian soldiers were martyred along the India-China border. The Ministry of External Affairs has advised that no further agreements be signed with Chinese companies.
According to reports, Chinese Ambassador Sun Weidong attended the online conference during the deal last Monday. One of these agreements was for Rs 3,770 crore. This was with Great Wall Motors (GWM) of China. There was talk of setting up an automobile plant in Talegaon near Pune.
At the same time, the second agreement was the joint venture of PMI Electro Mobility and Photon (China). It was worth 1000 crores. According to the government’s release, it would have provided 1500 jobs. Apart from this, the third agreement was with Chinese company Hengely Engineering. It was a 250 crore deal.
