No evidence of China’s involvement in growing cyber attacks: PMO

Mumbai: Gulshan Rai, Chief Information Security Officer of the Prime Minister’s Office, said on Monday that there has been a 200 percent increase in cyber incidents in India during the last two months. He said that although there is no such evidence that China can be held responsible for this. They said that these incidents have increased due to changes in the service sector to work from home due to the Covid-19 epidemic, as people download non-trusted applications which may lack security measures.

Relations between India and China have been tense in the past, and 20 Indian soldiers lost their lives in violent clashes in the Galvan Valley. After this, India banned 59 apps from China for security reasons. Rai said in a program here, ‘It is true that cyber incidents, such as hacking systems, have increased significantly during the last two months. One can say that more than 200 percent (increase), this is the figure which is available. ‘

He said, ‘There is no evidence that attacks have taken place due to tension between the two countries (India and China)’. Rai said that special agencies are monitoring the situation and preventing attacks. He said, ‘There have been big cases of phishing, service related issues and ransomware. These cases have not only increased due to increased stress, these cases have increased since the end of January and February due to working from home.
