Mumbai: Mumbai Police arrested Vikas Khanchandani, Chief Executive Officer of Republic Media Network, in the TRP scam case on Sunday morning. A police official said that Khanchandani has been arrested by the Crime Intelligence Unit of the police from his residence here. The officer said he would be produced in court for remand. “
The Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARK) had lodged a complaint through the Hansa Research Agency after some channels had accused the TRP of making a mistake in the TRP.
It is alleged that in some of the houses where barometers were installed, some families were bribed and asked to run certain channels on TV so that their TRPs would increase. In the recently filed charge sheet, the police have alleged that an officer of Hansa has given money to run barometer homes on TV, including box cinema, fakt Marathi, Maha movie and Republic TV. Republic TV denied any wrongdoing. Police have so far arrested 13 people in this case.
