New Delhi: Around 1 lakh farmers attended the mahapanchayat, which took place near the Kithalana Border Outpost on Dadri-Bhiwani Highway, 120 km from Delhi on Sunday. The Mahapanchayat was addressed by leaders of Sanyukta Kisan Morcha Rakesh Tikait, Darshan Pal Singh and Balbir Singh Rajewal. Representatives of more than 50 Khaps from Haryana, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh participated in the Mahapanchayat. It called for repealing all three agricultural laws and making MSP mandatory.

In the Mahapanchayat, farmer leader Rakesh Tikait announced from the platform that the agitation will not end in any case till the demands of the farmers are met. The government should understand this very well. Representatives of some FPOs also attended, this meeting was peaceful unlike some recent meetings in Uttar Pradesh where police dispersed the crowd and even threatened people from attending any rallies. Five resolutions were passed from the stage in the mahapanchayat which lasted about two and a half hours.

He told the farmer leaders that the movement should not be allowed to weaken under any circumstances. The farmers of the country have written history through the movement. Addressing the mahapanchayat, the Sanyukta Kisan Morcha Executive Member said that after the January 26 episode, the government has adopted repressive policies but with the help of farmer organizations and Khaps, the farmer movement has become stronger.

He said that the government is ready to stop the supply of electricity and water and other essential items at the Delhi border picket sites. The government should understand that farmers are not going to back down. Balbir Singh Rajewal, who was in the 40-member committee of Sanyukta Kisan Morcha , said in the mahapanchayat that the farmer cannot live off the land. People of RSS and BJP are trying to mislead but they will never succeed. He said that the government wants to hand over the land of the farmers to the corporate houses, but the farmers will never allow this plan to be fulfilled.
