JNU treason case: Court summons to 9 including Kanhaiya Kumar

New Delhi: A Delhi court has issued summons in the sedition case to nine others including Kanhaiya Kumar, former president of JNU Students Union. All the accused have been asked by the court to appear on 15 March. Kanhaiya Kumar and others including JNU alumni Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya are accused of raising anti-India slogans.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Dr. Pankaj Sharma has taken cognizance of the charge sheet against Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid, Anirban Bhattacharya, Mujib Hussain Gattu, Munib Hussain Gattu, Umar Gul, Rais Rasool, Aqib Hussain, Basarat Ali and Khalid Bashir Bhatt.

In his order, the judge said, “The sanction to prosecute the accused has already been received by the Home Department, Government of Delhi. Taking the charge sheet seriously, all the accused have been summoned. He has been asked to appear in court on March 15 to face trial.

On 11 February 2016, after complaints from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Mahesh Giri and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a case was registered under sections 124A and 120B of IPC against unknown people at Vasant Kunj (North) police station. it was done.

A case has been registered against the accused under sections 124 A (sedition), 323, 465 (forgery), 471, 143, 147 (rioting), 149, and 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC. The order to start the trial was received last year.
