New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday dedicated 7,500 Jan Aushadhi Kendras to the nation at Indira Gandhi Regional Health and Medical Institute (NEIGRIHMS), northeast of Shillong.
Modi dedicated this new center to the nation through video conferencing. Quality medicines are available at this center at reasonable prices. Apart from this, the Prime Minister also interacted with people from different parts of the country during this period. The objective of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Project is to provide good medicines at cheap prices. The number of these centers in the year 2014 was 86. Today the number of these stores has reached 7,500 under this scheme.
All the districts of the country have such stores. In the financial year 2020-21, the sale of medicines by these centers till March 4 has saved the citizens about Rs. 3,600 crore. Medicines at these centers are 50 to 90 percent cheaper than the market price. To spread awareness about ‘Jan Aushadhi’, ‘Jan Aushadhi’ week is being celebrated across the country from March 1 to 7. Its theme is ‘Jan Aushadhi-Sewa Bhi, Rozgar Bhi’.
