Covaxin safe but analysis of the effectiveness of third phase clinical trial necessary: Lancet

New Delhi: A research paper published in the famous medical science research journal Lancet states that covid vaccine made in India is safe but an analysis of the effectiveness of the results of its Phase III clinical trial is necessary. In January this year, the emergency use of Covaxin was approved, at which time the vaccine was in the third phase trial. An analysis of the results of the first two phase trials of covoxin has been published in the research paper, in which it has been said to be safe.

The Lancet states that the efficacy of the vaccine cannot be determined by 2-phase trials, but the vaccine made by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech is “safe / immunological”.

Faheem Younus, head of infectious diseases at Maryland University of Chesapeake Health in the US, described the development of the vaccine as “good news” in a tweet. He wrote, “Good News, the results of Phase 2 of Bharat Biotech’s Covicine have been published in Lancet. Under this, 380 Volunteer has been studied. The second dose of vaccine can be given on 28 days. Any kind of vaccine Serious (Level 4/5) side effects have not been revealed. But the effectiveness of the vaccine cannot be measured on the basis of a two-stage trial report. “
