New Delhi: After growing anger in the country over privatization of public sector undertakings, the government today said in the Lok Sabha that Railways and LIC will not be privatized.

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, while responding to the discussion in Lok Sabha for more than six hours on the demands for grants, said that many members in the House have spoken about privatizing the railway and expressed deep concern over it but ” Let me say that Indian Railways will not be privatized and the railways will remain with the Government of India. ”

In the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, in a supplementary question, Mr. Javadekar said that rumors of privatization of LIC should not be taken into consideration. He said that the government will interfere in profitable public sector undertakings and the government has no intention of privatizing them. Government intervention in government undertakings like Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) will not be reduced. Mr. Javadekar said that the government is making plans for the revival of loss-making undertakings of the public sector.
