Supreme Court refuses to ban electoral bonds

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a petition to ban the sale of electoral bonds before the assembly elections.

A bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde refused to ban the sale of electoral bonds as demanded in the application taken by the NGO, the Association for Democratic Reforms.

The Center had earlier told the bench that the bonds would be issued from April 1 to April 10. The bench also comprises Justices AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian.

The NGO had claimed that there was a serious apprehension that the sale of any kind of electoral bonds before the upcoming assembly elections, including West Bengal and Assam, would “increase the illicit wealth of political parties through shell companies”.
