Justice N.V. Ramana appointed as next CJI

New Delhi: Justice Ramana will be the 48th CJI. He was appointed to the Supreme Court on February 17, 2014.

Justice Ramana will take over as the CJI on April 24 after the retirement of incumbent S.A. Bobde on April 23.

According to a release issued today by the Department of Justice of the Ministry of Law and Justice, Mr. Kovind has appointed Justice Raman as the new CJI, using the power conferred in Clause 2 of Article 124 of the Constitution, whose tenure as the current CJI Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde will be effective from the date of his retirement.

Justice Ramana will have a tenure as CJI with over 16 months at the helm before he retires on August 26, 2022.
