SC imposed an interim stay on Allahabad HC’s decision to lockdown in 5 cities of UP

New Delhi: Relieving the Uttar Pradesh government, the Supreme Court has put an interim stay on the Allahabad High Court’s decision to lockdown in five cities of the state and has directed the state government to present report on steps to be taken. The next hearing will be held after two weeks.

The UP government had challenged the High Court’s order in the Supreme Court on Tuesday to impose a lockdown in five districts of the state amid the growing Corona cases in Uttar Pradesh, and demanded a stay on the Allahabad High Court’s decision. CJI SA Bobde’s bench heard this. During the hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that a lot of steps are being taken. It is not right to put five cities in lockdown by judicial order.

Earlier, the UP government has refused to accept the order of the Supreme Court. It has been said by the state government that it will not execute this order as it has to protect both the life and livelihood of the people. The UP government has said that at present, there will not be ‘complete lockdown’ in cities.
