Mumbai: At least 13 Maoists were killed early Friday in an encounter with police in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra.
Gadchiroli Deputy Inspector General of Police Sandeep Patil said that the encounter took place at 5 am today. At the time of the encounter, the Naxalites had gathered for a meeting in the forest of Kotami in Attapalli.
He said that on the basis of intelligence information of the Maoists, the C-60 battalion of Maharashtra Police started a search operation. He said that the Naxalites started firing after seeing the policemen. He said that policemen also opened fire in retaliation and during this time 13 Naxalites were killed.

He said, “After getting the information about the presence of Maoists in the forest, we started the campaign a day before. So far, we have been reported to have recovered 13 bodies. The search operation is still in progress. “
