Major news outlets hit by global web outage

Washington: A number of news outlets and popular web services were hit with a large-scale outage on Tuesday due to a failure of a cloud-based content delivery network.

The outage occurred at the San Francisco-based web infrastructure network Fastly for about an hour Tuesday morning.

Fastly clients including The New York Times, CNN, the BBC, The Guardian and popular web-based retail services like Amazon and Target were affected by the outage.

The outage affected popular apps and websites like Reddit, Pinterest, Hulu, HBO Max and Spotify. The British government website was also down for a while.

The effect of the failure was seen worldwide. Outages were reported in North and South America, Europe, Asia and South Africa.
