730 doctors died in the second wave of Covid: IMA claimed

New Delhi: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) said on Wednesday that 730 doctors have died in the country so far during the second wave of Covid-19. According to the updated data of IMA, the maximum number of doctors have lost their lives in Bihar, 115, Delhi 109, Uttar Pradesh 79 and West Bengal 62. Earlier on June 12, the IMA had said that 719 doctors have died during the second wave of Covid across the country.

The IMA, in a recent letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had said that doctors who lost their lives in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic should be accorded the status of COVID Martyrs for their sacrifice and their families should be given due support by the government. IMA has created the Covid Martyrs Fund (Covid Martyrs Fund) to help the families of doctors who died of infection.

According to the IMA, 748 doctors across the country had lost their lives due to corona infection last year. During the first wave in February this year, the central government’s data on the deaths of doctors was misconstrued by the IMA. The government had said that 167 doctors died due to Covid last year. However, the IMA claims that 734 doctors lost their lives due to the infection last year.
