Three people lynched to death in Tripura

New Delhi: Three people were allegedly lynched by a mob on suspicion of cattle theft in Tripura’s Khowai district in the early hours of Sunday. The deceased have been identified as Zayed Hussain (30), Bilal Mian (28) and Saiful Islam (18) and all residents of Sonamura sub-division of Sepahijala district.

Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar said that the villagers of Namanjoypada saw a mini truck carrying five cattle going towards Agartala at around 4.30 am. They followed him and stopped the vehicle near Uttar Maharanipur village. The villagers started thrashing three people on the mini-truck with lethal weapons and two of them were thrashed by the mob while the third fled, he said. The mob also caught the third person in Mungiakami, a tribal area near North Maharanipur, and thrashed him there.

SP Kiran Kumar said that the police immediately reached both the places and first took them to the nearest hospital. He was then admitted to the Agartala Government Medical College where doctors declared him brought dead. A case has been registered and investigation is on. No arrest has been made yet.
