New Delhi: On the 46th anniversary of the imposition of emergency in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has strongly attacked the Congress and said that the then Indira Gandhi government of Congress not only crushed our democratic values but also darkened the historical legacy of our great men was kept in On the anniversary of the Emergency, the PM has remembered those great personalities who opposed the Emergency and protected democracy.
PM Modi tweeted, “This is how Congress crushed our democratic ethos. We remember all those great personalities who opposed the Emergency and protected Indian democracy.”
The Prime Minister wrote in another tweet, “#DarkDaysOfEmergency can never be forgotten. The period from 1975 to 1977 witnessed the systematic destruction of institutions…Let us pledge to do everything possible to strengthen the democratic spirit of India , and live up to the values enshrined in our Constitution.”
Along with this, PM Modi has also shared the slides of facts released by BJP on Instagram, which are related to Emergency. In these slides, BJP has shown what were banned by the then Congress government during the Emergency.
According to the BJP, between 1975 and 1977, that is, during the Emergency, films on freedom fighters and martyr patriots Chandrashekhar Azad and Bhagat Singh were banned. Apart from these, the songs of Kishore Kumar, the spread of the ideas of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and Gurudev Rabindra Nath Tagore were banned.

Emergency was in force in the country for a period of 21 months from 25 June 1975 to 21 March 1977. Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister of the country at that time.
