2 army personnel arrested for espionage, 900 confidential documents handed over to ISI

New Delhi: The Punjab Police on Tuesday arrested two Army personnel on charges of spying and providing confidential documents to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). This has busted the cross-border espionage network. Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Dinkar Gupta said that the arrested jawans have been identified as 23-year-old constable Harpreet Singh and constable Gurbhej Singh.

The DGP said, “The arrested persons have been identified as constable Harpreet Singh (23), a resident of Chicha village in Amritsar and posted in Anantnag. He had joined the Indian Army in 2017 and belonged to 19 Rashtriya Rifles. Gurbhej Singh (23) hails from Punian village in Tarn Taran and belongs to 18 Sikh Light Infantry and was working as a clerk in Kargil. He had joined the Indian Army in 2015.

Sharing further information, Gupta said that Jalandhar Rural Police while probing the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) case recovered confidential and secret documents related to the functioning and deployment of Indian Army from across the border drug smuggler Ranveer Singh. Huh. He was arrested on 24 May 2021 with 70 grams of heroin. Ranveer revealed during interrogation that he had received the documents from constable Harpreet Singh, who was his friend. They are from the same village.
