Washington: US President Joe Biden on Friday nominated Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti as his ambassador to India. If ratified by the Senate, the upper house of the US parliament, Garcetti, 50, will replace Kenneth Juster, who served as the US ambassador to India during the Trump administration.
Earlier this week, Juster was appointed as a Distinguished Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. Announcing the nomination along with several other ambassadors, the White House issued a statement saying Eric M. Garcetti has been mayor of the City of Los Angeles since 2013 and served 12 years as a member of the city council.
As mayor, Garcetti has been overseeing the busiest container port in the Western Hemisphere, the nation’s largest municipal utility and one of the world’s busiest airports, the statement said. Led LA’s successful bid to bring the Games back to American soil.
