NewDelhi: Mumbai, Maharashtra Rains Updates: About three people were killed and dozens were injured after a house collapsed in Mumbai’s Govandi area.  At least 60 villagers have been rescued along with their cattle in Chiplun’s Mirjoli village after they were trapped due to sudden outflow of water following a landslide. Mumbai too suffering from the heavy and incessant rains from last week.

Apart from existing four teams three more teams of NDRF have joined rescue work in Chiplun and the hilly regions of Ratnagiri district where torrential rains have wreaked havoc in the coastal town, more danger are likely in the places where illegal constructions in the catchment area near the Vashisthi river bed was done along with the discharge of water from the Kolkewadi dam. The district administration has issued a list of people, who are stuck in the flood. Yesterday, Prime Minister called to Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray and assured all possible help from the Centre in the rain ravaged state.

Meanwhile, navy services requested by Maharashtra government in other parts also, the Western Naval Command has mobilised around seven flood rescue teams with one Seaking 42C helicopter to facilitate the rescue operations in the state especially in flood-affected Konkan, soon after getting the request from CM office.

The navy rescue teams are currently in Ratnagiri and Raigad districts, since Chiplun and Khed in Ratnagiri district are the most affected areas— floodwater coming from risen Vasisthi river and the extra discharge of water from Koyana dam has submerged several areas of the district.

Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray took stock of the flood situation in Maharashtra as well as of both these districts affected by rain. After the review meeting, the CM called the Indian Navy to join the rescue and relief work in these two districts.

Taking cue from Maharashtra, Telangana CM, K Chandrasekhar Rao has also put the entire administration and NDRF on high alert after heavy rains and huge inflows from the upstream of Maharashtra and Karnataka began flooding large parts of the state. “Telangana must need to focus more in Godavari and Krishna rivers regions told CM to concerned officials.
